Edgewood High School
San Fernando High School
With year number two in effect at the Northeast Valley Tournament, The Lions wanted to once again start off on the right path. This time around, The Lions entered Game 1 of the tournament against a very tough San Fernando High School who began their 2016-2017 campaign against the Edgewood Lions.
The Tigers jumped on a 4-3 run early in the first quarter but their one point lead was quickly erased in a matter of minutes with a pair of three pointers from guards Daniel Felix, Niko Yamamoto and Ozzy Mancilla. The Tigers wouldn’t take the lead for the rest of the game.
The Lions once again were rallied by their 2015-2016 team MVP Daniel Felix who finished with a 20 point performance. In addition, Felix made some impressive stats to his resume adding 6 rebounds, 4 assist and 3 steals.
Along with Felix, the Lions saw great production from Ozzy Mancilla, Niko Yamamoto and Alfredo Diaz who all three finished in double figures. Mancilla finished the game with 17 points, Yamamoto finished with 14 points and Diaz with 10 points. Mancilla also grabbed a team high 8 rebounds in the Lions 14 point win over the Tigers.
The Lions now 2-0 face their toughest opponent yet on Tuesday with a second round matchup against the defending Northeast Valley Gold Division Champions and host school Vaughn White Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
